On the 4 of December 2021, we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the first head of the independent Lithuanian seaport and the harbour master of the Klaipeda port Ludwig Stulpinas. In Kopgal, where the captain who dedicated his life to the sea is buried, together with the maritime community, we paid tribute to his memory.
L. Stulpinas has been in charge of Klaipėda port for ten years since 1923. He took care of the establishment of the Lithuanian fleet, the development of port and maritime business, and was honorary chairman of the Lithuanian Seafarers Union. For many years, L. Stulpinas was a captain. It was his steamship Burma that received the distress signal of the famous ship Titanic and rushed to its aid.
