Klaipeda port breakwaters under reconstruction
One of the main functions of the Port Authority is the improvement of infrastructure in Klaipeda port, which ensures its competitiveness, safety and allows for the reception of ever-larger ships.
“The reconstruction of breakwaters will ensure greater navigation safety. Now, in adverse weather conditions, there are restrictions on the entry of ships into port, especially for large ships, in order to ensure safety. The number of days of vessel traffic restrictions is estimated to decrease by almost a third per year. This project will allow the port channel to deeper to 17 m. and accommodate the largest ships that can enter the Baltic Sea. This means new opportunities not only for the competitiveness of Klaipėda port but also for the competitiveness of the Lithuanian economy,” says Algis Latakas, Director General of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority.
