Lithuania has ratified the 2009 Hong Kong Convention
The Republic of Lithuania ratified the 2009 Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, with a declaration.
The aforementioned Convention was concluded on May 15, 2009, in Hong Kong, to ensure the regulation of safe and environmentally sound ship recycling at the international level.

According to data from the International Maritime Organization, 25 states have ratified the Hong Kong Convention, 11 of which are European Union member states: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, France, Portugal, and Germany. The Convention entered into force on June 25, 2025.
The Hong Kong Convention applies to the design, construction, operation, and preparation of ships to facilitate their safe and environmentally sound recycling without compromising ship safety and operational efficiency. It also establishes a mechanism to ensure the safe and environmentally sound operation of ship recycling facilities and compliance with requirements for proper ship recycling.
Lithuania has submitted a notification of ratification to the IMO, and the 2009 Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships will enter into force for Lithuania on August 7, 2026.
