The Lithuanian Research Council announces the results of the evaluation of the 2nd call for proposals for participation in international networks

The application submitted by the Lithuanian Shipowners’ Association has been positively evaluated. Since 2004, the Lithuanian Shipowners’ Association (LSA) has been a member of the European Shipowners’ Association (ECSA), taking part in its committees, making decisions, submitting proposals to organized meetings, and implementing joint projects with consortia partners.

To implement the 2015 Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the decision of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the shipping sector by 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 emissions, the IMO’s decisions on the reduction of low-emission marine fuels, the reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions, and the management of ballast water, the LSA’s priority is to encourage its members to invest into the reduction of emissions, low-emission transport technologies, and the promotion of alternative fuels.

ECSA actively represents its members in global regulation through the IMO and EU legislation to achieve these objectives. From 2024, shipping is included in the Emissions Trading Scheme. LSA’s participation in the activities of the ECSA is useful for exchanging good practices and, of particular importance, for making sense of them by combining science and innovation in the European Horizon projects. Solution needs are being addressed through the search for science-based innovative solutions, while at the same time combining our expertise to implement projects that address global needs, such as Pathways2RResilience, MISSION, and others.

The Association, together with the Klaipėda Port Authority and its partner associations, implement projects under the European Horizon Program to strengthen international partnerships in Europe, to achieve common goals in the areas of climate change, pollution reduction, greening, digitalization, and safe shipping, as well as to create more value for science and business. The Association is open to proposals from partners, and consortia to submit applications under the European Horizons program.

Participation in the international activities of the Association is financed under the funding plan “New Generation Lithuania” for the Economic Recovery and Resilience Facility and the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania administered by the Lithuanian Research Council.
