Smart buoy installed close to the breakwaters of Klaipeda port
A new article reports on Klaipeda port, where a new smart buoy was deployed in August 2026 as part of the MOVEO project. The buoy is located four nautical miles from the port entrance and collects real-time data on wind, waves, water currents, water levels, and GNSS signal interference.
Using Internet of Things sensors, the buoy feeds data into a central algorithm. That algorithm helps work out the best approach speeds for vessels, anticipate delays, and keep ships and the people on board safe. It can even help vessels confirm their position when GPS is not working properly.
Much of this data was not available before. In the future, it will also help forecasts of conditions at the port, so logistics plans can be adjusted and cargo flows optimised.
