The Lithuanian Government has designated the project to build a CO₂ transshipment terminal in Klaipėda as a project of national importance

The Government has tasked KN Energies with preparing the terminal for operation by the beginning of 2032: to receive CO₂ from polluters, temporarily store it, and transship it to CO₂ carrier ships for further transport to long-term storage sites.

The terminal’s projected annual CO₂ transshipment capacity is 1.35 million tons, with the possibility of increasing capacity to 2.75 million tons by 2037.

The preliminary project budget is 300 million euros.
