To celebrate the 774th anniversary of the city of Klaip\u0117da, one of the port city\u2019s oldest daycare centers was transformed with bright colors and maritime accents. The main wall of the \u201cTraukinukas\u201d educational institution was adorned with a maritime fresco painted by Au\u0161rin\u0117 Pud\u017eevyt\u0117, an artist who travels the world\u2014she has left her frescoes in more than thirty countries around the globe. The Lithuanian artist, who is based in Morocco, traveled from the Netherlands\u2014where she had just opened her solo exhibition \u201cTides of the Self\u201d in Rotterdam\u2014to paint the maritime fresco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always a pleasure to return to Lithuania and leave my creative mark here. It\u2019s especially meaningful to create for children. I\u2019ve always believed that in places like kindergartens or schools, there can never be too much color. These are spaces where children spend a large part of their day, so they should inspire curiosity, joy, and imagination. \u201cI hope that by seeing this mural every day, children will grow up learning about Klaipeda\u2019s identity as a maritime city and understanding that the sea can become a part of their future,\u201d said Au\u0161rin\u0117 Pud\u017eevyt\u0117, the mural\u2019s creator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maritime murals have been painted in Klaipeda\u2019s educational institutions for the second year in a row. Last year, a maritime motif adorned the wall of the \u201cPagrandukas\u201d nursery school. This maritime mural is one of the components of a project designed to encourage an interest in maritime culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project partners are the Steam Center at Klaip\u0117da University, the Lithuanian Maritime Museum, and the Lithuanian Shipowners\u2019 Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
