An informal meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic Council of Ministers was held in Klaip\u0117da and Palanga on 17-18 August. Prime Minister Ingrida \u0160imonyt\u0117 met with Estonian Prime Minister Kristens Michals and Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina. The meeting focused on the security of the region, highlighting the need to further strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence posture, in particular the forward defence on the eastern flank, by working actively with Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom in their capacity as the leaders of the Forward Groups of our countries. The Lithuanian Prime Minister stressed that the Baltic countries should encourage all EU countries to increase defence spending, tighten sanctions against Russia and its allies, continue supporting Ukraine, and mobilise support for accelerating the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and Moldova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also discussed cooperation in transport and energy, synchronisation with continental European networks, the progress of the Via Baltica and Rail Baltica projects, strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure and the need to increase the military mobility budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
